Health is a state of complete social, physical and mental well being. In the 21st century and its tiring lifestyle people usually forget to take proper care of themselves. Human body is like a machine and thus it is very important to maintain this machine and take care of each and every part of this machine. We hardly pay any attention to our body when we sit for long hours on chair while doing our office work or while playing games on computer and therefore we ourselves ruin the functioning of the body. Following are the 10 major disadvantages of sitting on chair for long hours, as sitting in short means killing yourself.
10. AFFECTS BLOOD CIRCULATION OF THE BODY

One of the major disadvantage of sitting on chair for long hours is that it affects the blood circulation of our body, mainly the circulation of the pelvic area and the lower limb area get affected. Weight of sitting affects the hip area and the surrounding organs due to pressure of sitting for long hours. Improper blood circulation is not at all good as it can further result in many other major problems. While doing our work we get so much involved that we forget about the results of this. Some of us may think that it would hardly matter if we sit for long hours on chair for a day or two, or even twice a week, but the fact is that it really matters. Our body is very sensitive and when we sit on chair for long hours in one particular position the blood circulation of the lower area gets affected as the lower body do not receive sufficient amount of blood. Generally our body do not show the symptoms at an early stage , but it definitely shows the affects of long hours of sitting at one point of time, and the symptoms are disastrous. Thus it is advisable that we should do simple exercises so that the blood circulation of body is maintained and thus each and every part would receive sufficient amount of blood for its proper functioning with efficiency.

Sitting for long hours in a bad posture can lead to yield negative effects on the body by placing stress on the back , joints and tendons. It leads to improper body alignment, which can further cause muscular imbalances. Long hours of sitting may damage inter-vertebral disc, and thus may damage the posture of the body.

It must be shocking for you to know the fact that sitting can also result in accumulation of fat in the body. These days people go mad for the sake of reducing the fat of their body and maintaining a good figure but they hardly know the fact that while they are sitting for long hours , all the extra fat of their body gets accumulated around the waist area. It is really very important to get rid of this extra fat as it can further lead to high bloop pressure or in severe cases it may even cause heart attack. We should regularly do physical exercise and should use stairs instead of elevators, as these small small things are of immense importance.

Poor breathing is yet another main health disadvantage of long hours of sitting on chair. Oxygen is required for our survival and this oxygen is present in dissolved form in blood. The function of lungs is to purify impure blood and make it rich in oxygen. Due to improper blood circulation , efficiency of lungs also decreases and thus the rate of blood purification decreases. This in turn results in improper functioning of other organs.

Sitting for long hours affects our muscles mainly back and neck muscles as we sit in a particular position for a long time. Tensions in the tissues of back and neck weakens the blood flow thus reducing the oxygen and nutrient intake of discs, ligaments and bones which further results in the tiredness of these areas . The best way to prevent this tiredness is that we should tilt the head forward to prevent neck injury . To prevent back pains one should sit without lumbar support or one can even do some stretching exercises.

Food is like fuel for the human body. It is very important that whatever we eat should get digested properly so that each and every cell of the body can receive the required nutrients. The food can reach the cells of the body only when it is ready to dissolve in the blood stream thus digestion is a very important phenomenon. Sitting in one position on a chair for long hours badly affects our digestive system and thus results in digestive problems which in severe cases may even result to dehydration. Thus it is very important that we should avoid sitting for long hours and most important is that we should drink lots of water and should do regular exercise so that our food gets digested properly.
4. INCREASES RISK OF DIABETES AND HEART DISEASES

Improper functioning of the heart may lead to diabetes and heart diseases. Sitting for long hours results in abnormal cholesterol levels. This further increases the risk of heart attack. In a heart attack the flow of oxygen-rich blood suddenly becomes blocked. If the flow of blood is not restored immediately, that part of heart muscle begins to die. Several studies suggest that people who spend most of their time sitting are more likely to have a major heart attack. The best way to protect ourselves against heart diseases is to take small breaks at an interval of every 15 minutes and also one should drink a cup of coffee.

Our eyes are one of the most important part of the human body as it helps us to see the beautiful world around us. While sitting on chair for long hours , our eyes also get affected as the ciliary muscles get tired and result in eye strain. And further because of this eye strain it may even result in headache. The most universal complaint of pain is head pain and one would hardly believe that sitting can cause headache directly or indirectly. The most efficient method to get rid of this pain is that we should regularly wash our eyes with cold water so that our ciliary muscles gets relaxed.il

The back is such a common trouble spot because we put a lot of stress on it while we are sitting for long hours on chair. Whatever we are engaged in , our spine is the central support for our upper body and holds us upright. young people mostly think that back and joint pain is something which belongs to the territory of old people or those who are approaching old age, they are obsessed with the thinking that back and joint pain comes only with the old age. But now a days back pain is very common among young people and the main reason behind it is that they sit in a particular position for long hours while working on internet or while playing games on computer.The best way to avoid sitting pain is to go for small walks during long hours of work.

Cancer is something which is really common these days but one should not avoid the truth that cancer is really a deadly disease. In cancer,cells divide and grow uncontrollably, forming malignant tumors, and invade nearby parts of the body. Many people are suffering through cancer due to physical inactivity and prolonged periods of sitting. According to the AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF CANCER RESEARCH, sitting for too long leads to an increased risk of breast and colon cancer. Colon cancer is due to uncontrolled cell growth in the parts of the large intestine, or in the appendix. Breast cancer is yet another kind of cancer that develops from breast cells. It usually starts off in the inner lining of milk ducts that supply them with milk. According to epidemiologist Christine Friedenreich of Alberta Health Services, Canada, cancer could be prevented if people become more active . doing yoga along with intake of proper balanced diet could also be useful.
