Enjoying your workouts

Exercising should be fun, and here’s how you get there.

We all have the correct intentions: exercise now for our twilight years’ investment. But how many of us make a face at the mere mention of the word? Or, if we do get on a programme, it won’t take long before we get sidetracked and completely fall of the bandwagon.
Loving exercises is about being inspired. Here, we’ve stacked up all the reasons you need to help you stay on track.
Make it fun. Let’s face it, if you don’t enjoy working out, then really, there’s no point in doing it. Exercise should be fun and not rigid. So if you think it’;s just about hitting the gym, think again. Getting fit can also be playing ball with the kids, biking to work, or swimming with the family. Joining a class can also make it more exciting, since group workouts are great at motivating you, according to various studies.
Play for rewards. Noting, measuring and treating yourself everytime you reach a fitness goal is a great incentive to keep you on your programme. While many of us think of rewards as food, this need not be the case, especially if you’re looking to change your body. Try thinking of other incentives you can enjoy – like a spa retreat or a holiday abroad. You get the picture.
Get (properly) measured. Sometimes pain comes not from the workouts, but an unimaginable source. Your sports bra. Seven out of 10 women wear the wrong sports bra that can cause you discomfort when you exercise. So go get fitted properly and invest in the right sized bra.
Take time off. If your workout consists of high intensity training, just remember to ease off on it once in a while. Because your body can only take so much, too much of a high intensity training can lead to burnout and injury. Learn from professional athletes who take time off. They often come back stronger. So the key to getting fitter, firmer and stronger is to ease off on the workouts and resume after your body’s had its rest. You’ll come back with renewed passion for your exercise and greater intensity. That’s a promise.
