Who invited you to the picnic? Greedy alligator gorges on burgers after he gatecrashes al fresco feast
|
This is the extraordinary moment a group of diners got more than they bargained for when a greedy alligator gatecrashed their picnic looking for a bite to eat.
Photographer Rodney Cammauf had just found a sunny spot by the water in Homestead, Florida to enjoy his lunch when the bizarre event unfolded.
The 68-year-old and his friends were tucking into a few burgers when they spotted the giant crocodillian approaching them from the water.
Hmm, what's this? A greedy 'gator spots Rodney Cammauf's picnic set up by the water in Homestead, Florida
More for me! The beast clambers towards the burgers, soft drinks and crisps left behind after the diners fled
The creature descended on the party leaving the host of frightened diners with nothing to do but run.
But once the 'gator occupied with gorging on his new found feast, Mr Cammauf crept back towards the scene to capture some photographs.
He said: 'I felt extremely apprehensive when I saw the alligator approaching. They're obviously not fluffy rabbits so you need to be very careful with them.
'In this particular location alligators are use to seeing people and many often throw food into the water so they have a taste for it now.
'I guess he just thought the picnic had been set up there for him.

Watch where you picnic: Feeding alligators is illegal in Florida as it makes them lose their usual fear of humans
'In the end the 'gator was chased back into the water by someone with a bit more experience but sadly we lost all of our food.
'It's certainly an experience I won't forget in a hurry. It's a warning to other people to watch where they set up there picnic in the future.'
