CANCER - Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is a lump in the prostate gland created
by abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells

Prostate cancer

The prostate forms part of the male reproductive system that produces fluid for semen.
Early, curable prostate cancer may not have any symptoms. If it spreads to other organs, particularly the bones and lymph nodes, it can be fatal. About 20,000 news cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in Australia every year.
Symptoms of prostate cancer aren't always apparent in early stages.
When symptoms to appear, they include:
  • Difficulty passing urine, a weak flow of urine, dribbling urine, a frequent need to urinate and rarely, blood in the urine.
  • Pain in ejaculation.
  • Weight loss.
  • Reduced libido.

It's not known why prostate cancer develops but you're more likely to develop it if you're over 50 and have a family history of the disease.
