Article by surbhi jalan

Marriage is a bonding between two people, two families, two societies, two traditions, which should be handled with care, respect, trust and love. Getting married and giving someone lifelong commitment is a huge change in itself. A lifetime is a long, long time to be with anyone. For some, marriages have a negative impact on a relationship whereas for others marriage has more pros than cons if looked closely. Many people consider marriage as a prison and spouse as a ball and a chain. The goods and bads of marriage is very subjective but one thing that no one can deny is marriage does bring a change in life of both the girl and the guy. It’s no surprise to anyone that getting married will change a relationship. Below are ten ways how life changes after marriage:
10. Changes the way you make decisions

Changes the way you make decisions
After marriage, the way you make decisions changes to a large extent. Once you get married, many important situations like where to live, style of parenting, future plans come up where a strong decision making is required. Even though there is room for making personal decisions, you are also expected to consult your partner for effective decision making. The foundation of a healthy relationship is two individuals making wise decisions. It is never advisable for a couple to involve each other in every decision they take as personal space is always required. But, after you get married, the “me” changes to “we” and the arena of decision making for all noteworthy choice becomes shared decision making. There are also situations when the consensus is not arrived and in those cases, usually the girl is expected to give up and the final call belongs to the husband. You now have to start thinking for two and make decisions that are not only in your best interests, but also the best interests of your spouse and your relationship together.
9. You learn how to compromise

Before marriage, you just expect things to happen your way but once you get married, you simply can’t do things the way you used to. You have to learn to compromise and to give and take.  Marriage is more about taking care of two instead on one.  You’ll have to compromise your likings and interests which might be of going to a movie just because your partner wants to relax at home. Things change more when children come along. It’s amazing how your life starts revolving around that little baby. Sleep, temper, your likings, everything becomes secondary in life.
8. Changes your priorities

Once you get married, your priorities changes. You think more about family, household chores, bills and the kids than the romantic dates you used to think about earlier. Preparing dinner and making sure that everyone is up for dinner prioritize over your daily serials and TV shows. Your spouse, his or her comfort and feelings becomes your top most priority.
7.You develop a sense of security

After marriage, you develop a deeper sense of security as you will always have someone whom you can look forward to at any point of time, when you need them, someone to talk to .Initially, it’s difficult to get used to the other person, their things, their good and bad habits but once you get along, it’s like a house on fire. You will always have someone to lean on, go places with, and talk to, and share things with and to take care of you. You’ll feel more secured and comfortable.
6. You learn to communicate better

The way we communicate changes in most of the cases. People become more calm and composed in usual cases after marriage. You react differently to situations than you used to when you were not married. You learn to express yourself better and fix things in a calm manner. This change comes because after getting married you realize that if you’re going to be doing this for the rest of our lives we have to find out how to communicate better otherwise you’re not going to get anywhere. By respecting each other’s feelings and emotions the journey will always be smoother else it will be uneven and rough for both, the guy and the girl. A good marriage helps you to mature in many aspects such as patience, forgiveness, endurance, tolerance. And your level of maturity will definitely impact your relationship.
