With respect to perfume, there are two kinds of people in this world – the ones who obsess about it, and the ones who don’t care a fig about it. So for the first kind, I hope this list will be a useful guide, or at least a measuring rod to assess their favorites in terms of popular opinion. As for those belonging to the second kind, I’m pretty confident that most of them will, in all probability not even bother to read this. But if, I repeat, if, any of them were to suddenly feels curious about these carefully concocted fragrances out in the market, this list can at least give them a fair idea of which ones to choose, at least for this year and the next.
10. Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger

If you are in search of a fragrance that stands for the free spirit of summer, then Tommy Girl, launched by Tommy Hilfiger in 1996 should be within your target range. This fruity floral scent with citrus overtones is the creation of Calice Becker, the woman behind the bestselling J’adore from Dior. The strong whiff of blackcurrant, grapefruit, apple and mandarin orange will tantalize your nostrils the same way as a blooming fruit orchard on a pink summer evening would. It was undoubtedly a landmark in the history of perfumery when Chanel revolutionized the composition of modern fragrances for women with the brand’s first fragrance and arguably the most famous perfume ever made – The Chanel No. 5. The name is inspired by Coco Chanel’s affinity for this ‘lucky number’ which had numerous pertinent associations in her life. Moreover, in 1920, during the making of the product, when she was presented with samples of perfume to assess, she selected the fragrance contained in the vial marked with the number five. Having done so, she insisted that they keep the name. The legendary bottle design, with its octagonal stopper was a novel expression of simplicity in the age of over-the-top perfumes and bottles. The perfume itself, created by French-Russian chemist Ernest Beaux from May rose and jasmine incorporated a unique chemical formula never use before – the application of aldehydes.
