More proof that trying to lose weight and keep it off is a universal struggle: Even celebrity trainers—i.e., those who focus on diet and weight loss for aliving—have their ups and downs. Over the weekend, Pilates-trainer-to-the-stars Kit Rich confessed to FitSugar.com that she used to be one of those yo-yo dieters who tried all sorts of crazy fad diets, like juicing and extreme cleanses. But then she finally discovered a trim-down tactic thatworked and helped her lose 30 pounds for good: ditching the extreme measures, and making things more manageable.
"I really do believe wholeheartedly that the middle road is the way to go—anything extreme is not long-lasting," says Rich. So what exactly is the middle road when it comes to working out? Rich recommends aiming for about 30 minutes or three miles every day—no matter how you choose to do it (by running, walking, hiking, or doing a 30-minute DVD routine). That's what she does, and it's also what she tells her clients to do. "Women need to feel like they're doing something that they somewhat enjoy and that they have a grip on," she says. "And that's why I believe in this three or 30-minute rule," she says.
One thing's for sure: The best exercise routine is absolutely one that you'll actually do—and stick with. Still need a little extra motivation?
