SEPANG: A Malaysian-Dutch family of five were among the passengers aboard ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
Shaliza Zaini Dewal and her Dutch husband were traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with their three children when the plane crashed over the Eastern Ukraine last night.
Shaliza's mother, Datin Siti Diana Abdullah, told reporters here that she received the newsafter watching CNN shortly after midnight.
Siti Diana then called her son-in-law's brother in Amsterdam who told her that he had sent the family to the airport earlier.
"I am still shocked. I don't know anything yet and I am still waiting for news," she said, outside the family waiting area at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Siti Diana, who seemed dazed while facing the press, said her daughter and her family lived in Melbourne, Australia. The eldest of Shaliza's children was 15-years old.
It is understood that the family was planning to spend the Hari Raya holidays in Kuala Lumpur before heading back to Australia.
