TRAGEDY - Fatal fall for jobless man at Bangsar mall

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 ― A 26-year-old unemployed man fell three storeys to his death at the Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) here about 1.30pm today, stunning the lunchtime crowd in the upscale mall.
Brickfields police chief Azlee Abdullah told The Malay Mail Onlinein a text message that the victim was named Alif Alexandre Faizal Weber who had earlier visited the shopping complex with his mother.
“The deceased fell from the fourth level. Two BSC staff had tried to help the deceased's mother pull him back from toppling over but failed,” the assistant police commissioner said.
According to the senior policeman, the victim was unemployed and spent his time with his mother exercising after leaving university two years ago.
The victim was diagnosed as suffering from mental problems a year ago and was receiving treatment for it, the policeman said.
"The mother informed us he has been under medication for depression for the past one year," Azlee told The Malay Mail Online when contacted.
He added that victim's body has been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for an autopsy.
“Initial investigations revealed that there was no elements of foul play in his death,” he was quoted saying by The Star daily on its website.


The man died on the ground floor in front of Morelli's Gelato in Bangsar Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur after falling from the fourth floor. The victim was believed to have argued with his mother before he fell, The Star reported but did not elaborate.
The daily quoted a 50-year-old witness who gave her name as Ogy.
“I heard people screaming as his body hit the ground. The sight of his body was just overwhelming,” she was quoted saying.
BSC's management said their personnel were assisting the police with investigations.
“Our hearts, prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time,” the mall managament said in a statement.
